A standard is an agreed way of doing something. Standards control the quality, safety and reliability of products and services.

Standards are good for both consumers and businesses. Standards reduce the risk of ending up with poor quality or unsafe goods or services. Consumers have more confidence in products and services that meet certain standards.

Accessibility standards

Accessibility standards are the rules that businesses and organizations in Ontario will have to follow to identify, remove and prevent barriers to accessibility.

Ontario now has an accessibility standard for customer service. We're also developing accessibility standards in other areas:

  • built environment (buildings and other structures)
  • employment
  • information and communications
  • public transportation

Standards development committee have developed each standard. All committees were made up of representatives from the disability and business communities.
