The deadlines for compliance are staggered. This is to give businesses and other organizations time to implement the requirements of the standard.

Deadline for designated public sector organizations

They must:

• comply with the standard by January 1, 2010, and
• file their first accessibility report by March 31, 2010.

Deadline for businesses and organizations who have 20 or more employees

They must:

• comply with the standard by January 1, 2012, and
• file their first accessibility report in 2012.

Deadline for businesses and organizations with fewer than 20 employees

They must:

• comply with the standard by January 1, 2012.

These organizations do not have to file accessibility reports. (The exception does not apply to designated public sector organizations. Regardless of the number of people they employ, they have to file their first accessibility report by March 31, 2010.)
