The final proposed Accessible Information and Communications Standard has now been submitted to the Minister of Community and Social Services for consideration as law.

The proposed standard outlines how businesses and organizations may be required to create, provide and receive information and communications in ways that are accessible for people with disabilities.

A standards development committee, made up of representatives from the disability and business communities, developed the proposed standard.

It was released for public review from November 17, 2008 to February 6, 2009.

The committee used the feedback received during the review period to shape the final proposed standard, which was submitted to the government for consideration in summer 2009.
